Erika Albretsen of Watertown, Conn. was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology during Salve Regina University's 64th commencement held Sunday, May 18 overlooking the Cliff Walk in Newport, R.I.

TED Conference creator and author of seven dozen books Richard Saul Wurman presented the commencement address, urging students to "give themselves permission" to be interested in a variety of things as they move forward. "Do you understand the privilege - even if you have to work - of learning?" he said. "This is joy. This path, the journey, is just pure joy."

Salve Regina President Jane Gerety, RSM, conferred 659 degrees, including 485 baccalaureate degrees, 171 master's degrees and three doctorates.

Salve Regina, a Catholic, co-educational university founded by the Sisters of Mercy, enrolls more than 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Its 80-acre oceanfront campus is in the heart of the Ochre Point-Cliffs National Historic District.
